Sacramento—The newly formed community group, the Coachella
Valley Coalition for Responsible Sovereignty (CVCRS), will weigh
in this Thursday on the critical issue of local impacts as statewide
negotiations over the future of California Tribal gaming are set
to begin. CVCRS will issue a report on tribal gaming in California
with a focus on the Palm Springs area prepared for them by the
Research Department of the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees
International Union at the second “Local Government Symposium”
hosted by Stand Up for California! CVCRS members will provide
important insights on the local impacts of gaming from one of
the state’s most dynamic gaming regions, Palm Springs and
the Coachella Valley.
The Symposium will be held on Thursday,
February 27, from 10am to 3pm at the Historic Sutter Club in downtown
Sacramento (1220 Ninth Street). The CVCRS will address the gathering
from 10 to 11am.
The Coachella Valley Coalition for
Responsible Sovereignty (CVCRS) is a new and growing group of
local residents, business owners and community representatives
who are deeply concerned about the future of their community.
CVCRS supports Tribal Nation status, tribal sovereignty and tribal
economic development. CVCRS members believe the future of California
and its communities rests on the responsiveness of the State,
local governments and Tribal Nations to each other’s needs.
CVCRS believes the impacts and costs of tribal casinos on local
communities should be the responsibility of the gaming operations,
not local governments and their residents.
